Singular Cycles have been doing some rather expensive semi-custom titanium frames for a while now but have been promising new steel models for ages (close to 2 years I think) that have never materialised; there have been a few threads on here about this and quite a bit of interest in a new Swift. I believe that the last we heard was that things had been put on hold due to tooling costs.

Well all of a sudden you can pre-order a new Peregrine. I don't know if this means that other steel model (perhaps the Swift) might be on the way!

^ Are those new models/prototypes or a pic-bomb of old ones ?

'tis looking a bit front-mechy.

Maybe they are coming back?

The new ones I assume, weren't the old ones red?

Great news, Singulars are nice handling bikes.

If only it didn't have a through axle at the rear, then I could use a hubgear as well as SS.

I thought the old Peregrine was a bit on the heavy side compared to my other steel frames, but that was a minor consideration. The reason I got rid of it was its inability to take a wider tyre, so it's good to see that this will take a 50mm on a 700c rim.

I reckon that's about the ideal for a UK any sort of surface bike.

It's nearly the perfect gravel bike.

Shame the red didn't come back, I loved that colour.

No Red, that is a shame...

Also price of non-pre ordered frame puts it very close to fully custom made frame.

Cheers!
I.

They're certainly not cheap (too expensive for me).

Interesting. I'd like to see a new Swift. Perhaps Singular could buck the trend and not do a slack and stiff as a plank lump of lead...just a thought.

Peregrine does seem a bit pricy at £1k. My last Swift frame, fork and ebb was £400.

Not been in these parts for a while so it's nice to see people have not forgotten about Singular 🙂

It's true, we went through some tough times and I haven't had any new production frames since 2016. A year or so ago I started making the custom Ti stuff to order (which is not expensive really if you compare to similar) - firstly because I've always loved Ti, secondly to try to get the brand rolling again with a view to re-launching some production steel frames. The new Peregrine is the first of those. Other models are in the works (Swift and Gryphon most likely) but let's see how this goes first.

^ Are those new models/prototypes or a pic-bomb of old ones ?

Yes, these are both new ones, as mentioned - flat mount, thru axles, different cable routing, more tyre clearance and some geo tweaks.

’tis looking a bit front-mechy.

Yes, it can take a front mech, you don't have to use one if you don't want to!

various: it's expensive

Peregrines were always far too cheap - due to the lugs, paint and EBB they are expensive to produce. Again, compare it to similar things (Crust Romanceur, All-City Spacehorse) and I think it stacks up well. If you can find a custom builder to make you a lugged, disc braked, thru axled frame and fork from quality tubing for under a grand please let me know who as I'd like to work with them.

I’d like to see a new Swift. Perhaps Singular could buck the trend and not do a slack and stiff as a plank lump of lead…just a thought.

That's the plan - just like the old Swift - a southern softies' singletrack slayer with some flex and zing. Maybe Brexit will do one good thing and let us have frames which don't need to be built like a girder to pass CEN tests!

Sam - a new Puffin that could take 5" tyres would be nice 😃 Please, pretty please!

Thanks, northern softies welcome as well 🙂 Nearly every steel hardtail I see these days seems designed for riding down very steep rocky stuff. I don't do that, and IMO the design attributes which make them do that well make them feel horrible on relatively level (and -god forbid- uphill!) flowing trails, which is what I love to ride.

Working on something like that in Ti at the moment for someone of this parish. TBH I don't see enough demand for production full fat bikes at the moment - but never say never. If I could find a steel builder to do what the guys I'm working with on Ti do, but at a more affordable price I would be all over it.

Inflation is picking on cyclists?

Be very interested in a new Swift same as before, but 30.9 seat tube (with a dedicated 27.2 shim if needs be), keep the 1 1/8 head tube and fork. But got to be designed around a longer top tube and short stem 470mm reach at least on a large. Everything else was cool, maybe 3 bolt bosses on the forks.

In a sense, yes. Most bikes sourced in the far east are paid for in USD. When I started Singular GBP/USD was in a very different place from where it is now. Plus, you are not comparing like for like - a new Swift will be cheaper.

I really hope things work out for you Sam

I might be a potential customer, I might not. I suppose it depends on whether I need abike between my gravel bike and mt FS bike.

I agree on geometry that there seems little point in making a rigid bike that is optimised for steep and rough.

I know it misses the point of "Singular" but I have no need for an EPB

Inflation is a mess. Some things like tvs get cheaper which then mucks up the number for other stuff

Will be keeping an eye out for the Swift, its a bike I probably don't need but might be able to justify somehow 😉

Hi Sam Marino seem to be turning out frames at a fairly low cost.
I have a gen1 puffin, I believe it’s my favourite bike, just rides so well.
Weirdly the bike I’m almost always fastest on!

Yes and no.
The Stooge MK4 is a very different beast from the Swift and other Singular bikes, but it's a hoot on steep and rough stuff.
I took it down and around a load of local single-track today, including some tracks that have been used in the Southern Enduro series.

It also rides very well on flowing trails and even uphill...a ride that belies the 66 degree head angle.

I'd love a modernised Swift too though 😎

I'll always be interested in Singular bikes...my Swift is the best bike I've ever ridden and will never get sold. Just rides and fits so beautifully 😍
I'm eyeing a Fairlight Secan gravel bike, so would love to see a Singular equivalent. I think Sam's bikes were ahead of their time and its a shame he's missed out on peak-gravel!

Always liked my swift before I sold up all my bikes , then started all over again 12 months later doh...
I like normal handling up and down natural yorkshire dales pootles and the swift was great for that

If you can't wait for a new Swift, then I can thoroughly recommend a ti Pegasus - Swift geometry, with 44mm headtube, 31.6 seatpost with internal routing, 12x142 rear and the lovely lightweight Bushnell EBB.

The ti Kite is also bloody lovely :o)

I suspected it wasn’t as simple as inflation, thanks for the explanation. Good to know.

Sold my swift last year as went Stooge MK4 (both excellent btw) Still have the 2016 Kite though, thinking of converting Kite to dropbar 29 MTB adventure thingy..an updated Swift would probably push that thought

@Sam - Would definitely be interest in a new Puffin frame in steel if you decided to do a run of them.
