I've got XT 785 brakes on two of my bikes and they've been great. I splashed some cash on my latest wagon but simply can not get these XTRs to feel firm and actually stop the bike quickly.
I rode my full sus t'other day and the brake performance was night and day, so much so that I'm wondering on whether to swap the XTRs over.
They've been bled through twice from scratch and I've had a mate look as well. I did a little bit of fettling last night and noticed some fluid weep out of the port that's at 90' to the screw in cap.
I must be doing something wrong but is there a chance I have a set of duffers?

You've bust the seal - that cap shouldn't weep fluid. I've done this twice now, send them back for warranty replacement.
You need to get all the air out of them, which is pretty hard to do - you'll think you've got it all out, but if you hang the bike or the brakes upside down, while bleeding - you'll see air bubbles come out.
Are you using the little plastic bucket to bleed them?
PS. Send them back under warranty.

@rse 🙁 but thanks for the info. 🙂
I do have the pucker Shim bucket (which I didn't need for the XT's).
For the 2nd full on bleed my mate and I spent over an hour doing a bleed up from the caliper, and a drain down.
Right, XT's off the steel HT and a warranty return via Evans.
