My bike came with one of these. The action is noticeably stiffer than my usual XT even with the clutch off.
I've lubed it up and the cable is good.
Are they all like that?

Mine is pretty stiff.
It is designed for dh/free ride in mind though so possible it has a tougher spring in it.

Yes they are "stiff". I quite like the firmness compared to XTR. It's noticeably lighter with an XT shifter.

You can take some if the tension out if you remove the cover. I think I used some needle nosed pliers to twist the doodahd.
