Thinking about getting back in to MTB proper after a difficult year. Always been a fan of hardtails and the only bike I’ve ever really regretted selling is a Stif Morf. Sold it to give full sus a go in the form of a Cotic Flare and that was a bad move.

Anybody own a Squatch? How does it compare to the Morf and other similar bikes? Don’t know what it was about the Morf, but it just felt right and I’d love to find something similar.

Likewise loved my Morf, but was looking for a 29” ht,I knew Stif had somthing in the pipeline, but heard nothing until the Squatch was released.2 months after picking up my Pace 529, couldv’e saved a chunk of £, but the 529 is another level up from the morf, in alot of ways

Would love to have a blast on a Squatch though, just out of interest.

I have been reading the geometry charts. A 80mm bb drop sounds extreme. I think I’d have to run 165mm cranks on that.

The spec to £££ ratio is unbelievable. A similar cotic that I’m also looking at is £800 more.

It’s such a “bargain” I’ve enquired about it. If I don’t like it I’ll sell the frame buy a solaris max and be none worse off.

love the look, but can't get past the name after reading the review on here (at least i think it was here) where its name was described as something like a particularly hard poo, which i did find hilarious i might add.

would still ride it though having just gone back to a steel 29er hardtail myself in the form of a Pipedream Moxie. maybe have a look at their shorter travel option as an alternative, the Sirius S5.

I got the sqautch, i love it. you do have to be a bit careful pedals in ruts and through rooty/rocky bits but i've only hit the pedals a couple of times . i rips downhill and is really got a climbing, super comfy although it's still a little weird having such a steep seat angle.
I'm looking forward to hitting some bigger stuff on it when we can move around again.

@stwhannah yay! I’ll give that a read and then probably worry about how I’m going to be able to afford it.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

Edit - great review @stwhannah and it sounds like a bike I’d love. It would really compliment my Fugio and credit cards are a good thing aren’t they?

I think I’ve made my choice.
Stif squatch pro 200.

The price is unbeatable for the spec. A cotic, pace or stanton equivelant is £1000 more.

Would I burst into flames if I put a 150mm fork on it?

I think sticking a 150mm fork on it sort of defeats the point.
It will slacken the seat tube, lift the bb and 130mm is plenty on a hardtail. A 150 fork will mean the geometry changes an awful lot during its travel.

I had a chromag wideangle at 160mm and much preferred it at 130mm.

Just got mine the other week, climbs so much better than the on one big dog I sold just in time for the Squatch arriving.Got the basic build one with pike select plus forks and NX hearing.1900 but used cycle to work scheme so works out at less than 1500.Pros are it climbs so much better than the genesis Tarn and the on one big dog,and it's no lighter than either bike.Another pro it comes tubeless setup already.130mm travel is enough.Gearing is good.Frame looks fantastic.Cons.You do catch the pedals more. The saddle is horrendous.Fitted a charge spoon solved that problem.Steep seat angle puts more weight onto handlebars.Medium frame with 175mm is to high for me at five eight.150mm be better.Bike likes a rider who attacks the terrain, not quite me yet.Overall it's a bargain very impressed, value for money and no less impressive than pipedreams or cotics. The frame itself is very well put together and feels great soft back end without been univega flexy.Options in this price range are Ribble and on one and ragley and I think it beats all three hands down.Cotic bike deals are overpriced and same with Stanton and pipedream, there builds are 500-800 to expensive.

Just had my 2018 Cube Reaction TM stolen... been looking at a Squatch as a replacement. One bike to do it all... Can't really afford a full sus that I'd be happy with at the moment, plus it'd be a bit much for some of the cycling I do. I'm tall and struggled with the Cube being too short.

I've read a lot of comments about the Squatch BB drop. My Cube had a -60 drop, with 27.5 wheels meant the BB height was the same as the Squatch. Steeper head angle on the Cube means that the BB would have been lower than the Squatch when sagged, and it came with 175mm cranks compared to 170mm on the Squatch. It's nothing to worry about really.

I've put +2 degree angleset on mine and use it as an all rounder. The low BB can be a problem in tech climbing out of the saddle, but you get used to it. I'm 6'3", ride XL with 50mm stem and 165 cranks.

How do you find it size wise when standing on the pedals? I'm over 6'5" and have a long back... On the Cube my head was too far over the bars, felt awkward. I'm not sure there are any bikes available that would be the ideal size for me but the Squatch seems about as good as its going to get without going for a 520 reach full sus.

It's a perfect fit for me. I'm more legs than torso tho. What about Pole Taival?

Bear in mind that they're all sold out at the moment and they're taking pre-orders with an estimated dispatch in July.

Kona Honzo ESD - also sold out until next year's stock arrives - might be worth a look if you have a long back. XL has a 525mm reach but only a 450mm seat tube.

There's not a lot of choice for bikes in stock anywhere....

Hadn't seen the Pole. Interesting. Might be a bit too expensive for me just now once you add the duty and vat. Plus its got a huge effective top tube... my back doesn't do well being stretched out. Unfortunately I have quite particular geometry needs....

There's an XL Moxie in classifieds (not mine) if you can live with the short seattube.

Could the Stif Squatch be ran with 27.5 x 2.8 tyres instead of 29er's??

Widge! Funnily enough I gave mine it's test ride today. Probably make the BB a bit low. If you want to pop round with a wheel to see if it fits give me a shout

Cheers Trusty. Been advised by Stif, that it wouldn't be a good idea.

I have one and I’d +1 what Stif say. The BB is very low and I think 27.5 X 2.8 would be a liability

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd resurrect this one.

I saw an XL frame with dropper on Pinkbike and hatched a plan for a frame swap (meaning fork and crank swap also)

Big change from a Stanton Sherpa! The Sherpa was bought as an all rounder, but I'm increasingly riding the gravel bike on all XC and flattish routes, so thought I'd get something a bit more designed for steeper terrain.

Still getting used to it, but liking it a lot
