Has anyone experienced slow-returning XTR Race levers? Mine started this weekend on a 6 month old bike and although I got the back brake going ok by pouring on lube, the front brake has remained stubbornly sticky.

Here's a video so you get an idea of what I'm talking about:

It seems to me that the problematic part is the replaceable bushing shown here:

...which is the bit that links the blade to the threaded master cylinder piston shaft. It's really stiff to rotate in the blade and I can't see how this can possibly be right. I've dismantled it, removed the bushing, cleaned it carefully in IPA, lubed and then reassembled, but it's just as bad as before.

I'm talking to the LBS where it came from, but honestly, if there's an easy solution, I'd prefer to just fix it and get back to riding, rather than mucking about taking it back to the shop.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like my XT M8000 brakes at the moment.
Non returning lever then the brake just stays on.
Will be returning for a warranty replacement as it's only 6 months old too.
I think it's only £40 for a new lever but principle etc...

Absolutely. There won't be any issue with warranty on this (it's a new bike, and XTR stuff has a 3 year warranty anyway), but it's the annoyance of it really.

Still, I've become quite adept at pulling *and* pushing the brake lever 🙂

Quick follow up to this...

So, come the summer, this problem got 10x worse. With a bit of trial and error, I was able to show that the rear brake master cylinder started to bind at 20C ambient, which explains why I managed ok all winter.

I've now bought new brakes and the old ones have gone back to Madison for investigation and (I trust!) refund of the ludicrous price of a new pair.

The new ones work perfectly and, I hope, will continue to do so...!
