Hi all,

I was bouncing my wheel around to help swish sealant around and the free hub fell off my Hope Pro II - since then the free hub is sticking - i.e when I try and freewheel the chain/pdeals continue to spin when I'm walking the bike. When on it I can feel increased friction when freewheeling if I hold the pedals level.

I don't *think* anything fell out of the free hub but hard to say for sure - worth noting though that when the axle is tight, the problem occurs, if it's loosened slightly, it doesn't so that kinda suggests I'm missing something??

What's confusing is the current setup doesn't appear to match the exploded diagram - I don't appear to have the spacer in position 2 between the endcap and bearing and I do have a spacer after position 12, between the bearing and the hub body (this is with an XD free hub, not sure this makes any difference??)

Does that setup sounds familiar to anyone with an XD driver on a Pro II??

Is the seal (i think its green on my pro 4) part number 10, seated properly?

2 isn't a spacer, its the O-ring that's in the end cap that (is supposed to) hold it on.

9 is the spacer between the hubshell bearing and the freehub body.

That spacer being missing is the usual problem. If that's definitley there, then it might be the seal (10) not seated properly - either in the hubshell (which it should snap into - usually needs a good prod) or in the groove in the freehub body.

So I think 9 is the spacer on top of the bearing in these images?? Is that right? IMG_9936.jpegIMG_9937.jpeg

Yes, the No9 spacer/washer goes between the freehub and internal bearing on the hub itself

Last pic bearing looks very odd. Kind of lopsided.

A known issue is Hope use the washer/spacer(figure 9) with is made of steel and rubs around the axle which is made of alloy, making the entire system a tad sloppy.

I'd replace the axle, and all the bearings and reassemble.

Should be good after that.

Did you remove the cassette before trying to reassemble? It’s really hard to get the freehub seal to seat with the cassette still attached. Remove the cassette and put it all back together before pushing the seal back into place with a blunt tool to avoid damaging it. You need to hear the snap into the groove.

Came here to say this. You won't get it back together and seated without taking the cassette off IME.
