I've just bought some used BR-M9000 XTR brakes and I'm having a problem with the lever for the front brake. They came with plenty of meat on the pads and a wedge to keep the pads apart so I hoped it was just a fit and forget. However, when I pulled on the lever to centre the caliper so I could tighten the bolts, the pads moved in and stayed in, even after I let go of the lever. I've checked that the caliper is central. The lever blade is now able to move freely and the cylinder piston actuating rod moves with the lever. It's like pulling the brake on has moved the piston which is now stuck in the cylinder and not returning, even though the lever is no longer being pulled. Any ideas or shall I just take it apart and see what's broken?
As you've suggested, the piston's stuck. I'd try for a refund first.
you can get the pistons out of the XT levers. I've managed to replace one before. As above, if they're new definitely go for a refund/replacement.
Yes, go for the refund. But if they won't play ball, fixing a sticky pistons is pretty easy if a little time consuming. Like this:
Thanks guys
