Been following this on Strava. Jeez he's been through it.
It is about riding a bike. Most people on here won't be interested.
It's pretty heartbreaking viewing.
Sounds like an intervention in the end. He was pushing himself over the edge just to keep up.
Extraordinary attempt, especially given the accident and even more given the roads and weather in this country.

Was pretty shocked when I seen it this morning. But at the same time, it seems he's been struggling for a while. He talks a lot about not having time to recover from the start, but I think that was a major factor starting again well into the second half of his first year... There's only so much one can do.
Must be gutted after all that effort.
+1 imnotverygood, sign of the times....... He's not selling a gadget/ego massager or anything. 🙁
A noble effort. An already very difficult challenge must have been nigh on impossible after the injury. Add in wind, snow & ice and the wettest December ever, and Tarzan beating Godwin's record, and he must have known it was slipping away. Quite right to pull the plug.
I used to think it was a bit unfair for people to slag off Kurt for using carbon bikes and recumbents and riding in pancake flat and mild Florida conditions. He's perfectly entitled to attempt a world record anywhere and on any type of bike allowed under HAM'R rules. Steve's choice of bike and routes isn't Kurt's problem and his new record is still impressive in itself. Thing is, when you compare strava records, read blogs and view video footage from both camps and see the difference in support, weather & road conditions, bikes & terrain, they aren't anywhere near in the same league. Steve's attempt was so much more in keeping with the spirit of Tommy's original achievement.
Hopefully Steve can recover and have another crack at it. In the meantime, having witnessed what Kurt and Steve went through in 2015, the real hero is still Tommy Godwin.
