tonight on 24 hours in A&E is a friend that managed the refurbishment on my house, and then had an accident at Swinley and had to stay it hospital for somethng like 5 weeks with his ankle pinned. I've lost the pictures but they were pretty gruesome.

Thought it might be of interest !

Steve Vodden is his name and if you've admired the woodwork in the Selfridges christmas windows for the last few years (not last year) then it was his 🙂

Presumably you wouldn't have helped him. Or was he wearing mandatory ankle protection?

I think he was wearing appropriate protection rather than thinking he could accept hgher levels of risk and ignoring the fact that he was projecting those higher levels of risk on to everyone that was around him.

Maybe he needed the air ambulance - I donate the the surrey/kent one but need to do that one as well.

I was always disappointed I never got the air ambulance out of Swinley. Though in my concussed state I wouldn't have remembered it.

*barf*

I wish they'd stop featuring 'cyclists falling off in the woods' on 24 hours in A&E - Mrs wwaswas always gives me laser like side eye when they're on.

How'd he manage that, must have been going some as swinley is pretty smooth.

Depends, if it's off-piste...

Though you'll incur the wrath of CE going off the ginger & cobbles, earning you a "disappointed in you" letter 😉

"severely damaged" .. they weren't kidding!

Hope Stephen doesn't go the way of some others who have severely damaged their ankles. Can be really really debilitating 🙁

And

that's why I wear Five Ten Impact Highs - because I'd rather transfer the forces upwards and blow out my knees than see my bones sticking out my foot.

That and I hobbled around for a few months on a broken ankle without going to the doctor.

Does anyone else kind of really want to lick it? If so, can we form a group?

Short short of wearing MX boots I don’t think choice of footwear would help that much.

As with wwaswas, as much as I like watching 24 Hours in A&E, I dare not when the missus is about as I get 'more' than a glare when the weekly 'smashed up cyclist' is on,  having done a good 6.5 weeks in a Spinal Ward !

Yeah, not crashing is the best protection against this kid of thing.
