Is anybody doing it? How technical is it?
Im unsure which bike to take! Slow FS or faster HT?
I have entered but unfortunately something's come up for me and I'm unlikely to make it. I did the first one, though, and technical stuff was Cut Gate and Whinstone Lee Tor IIRC, so nothing crazy. Faster bike definitely in order IMHO as you'll mainly be covering rolling miles.
Nice route - you'll enjoy the day. Recall there was a vicious road pitch right at the end back up to Stocksbridge that needed the war face, but it wasn't on for long.
Cheers mate. Anything more than 20% on the last climb? I tend to enjoy super steep climbs although i guess ill be tired by then ha 🙂
Not quite that steep but it was an effort - 150m ascent maybe 10-15%, something like that - called New Mill Bank.

More took me by surprise as I didn't know that Strines area so didn't have my bearings on where the finish would be. I've not seen this year's route so don't know if it will be identical.
I'm doing it on my HT. Blue Bird Zero AM. The route is apparently the same as the 2016 route:

Not sure if that link works, but if not there is a link on the website for the ride. Not done the Stocksbridge to Langsett bit. The climb out from Langsett is moderately technical in places, not the steepest overall. The descent has some lovely steep rocky steps, with less technical options if that's not your thing. Not done anything over Strines apart from the climb up from Derwent reservoir (pretty steep) and across to the A57, which was lovely if I remember correctly!
Really hoping the weather stays dry, but I'm sure it'll be a good day out.
I was thinking of using my boardman ht pro 29er
I have a nukeproof scout and boardman fs pro but they just feel super slow compared to the ht pro over any distance
How does the route hold up in the wet? (Not so well i guess)
I'm going to sign up with a mate who's never done the Peak before. Trying to convince another too but we got lost last time trying to take a short cut up from Derwent to Cut Gate, ended up pushing through what can only be described as sodden sponge then dragging the bikes up the side of a hill so an organised route would be good, lol.
Cookci, I've only ridden it over the last couple of weeks, so no experience of it in the wet. I reckon most of it will be ok, plus the reason for the ride is related to conservation so I reckon they've chosen the best route to cope with adverse conditions. There's a fair amount of rocky cllimbing and descending from Cutgate to Derwent, so that should be fine. Not sure about the Strines section. I reckon the 29er will be pretty much perfect for it too. I would say my bike is more akin to the Scout, so you should suffer way fewer pedal strikes on the Boardman.
