. . . are pretty few and far between now. Apart from the likes of Soma, Surly and the 2nd gen Inbred with bolt-on mounts, what else is out there. I'm really enjoying [url=
]my little Timberline resto so looking to build up something a tad more up to date but still with that old-school skinny steel ride (pref rigid but 80-100mm forks max).
Any more ideas? Feel free to post pics too 🙂 .
Second hand might be your way to go, my old Cove Handjob was equipped with brake mounts.
Yeah, I had a Cove Handjob with v mounts - was lovely with rigid forks but fell out of love once I fitted Bombers.
I love that Duster racefaceec90 😛 and Evans are selling the frame for a pretty good price at the mo' - I guess I could budget for a new rear hub and cable disc caliper 😕
hamsomedog i think did frames with canti mounts
mamadirt thanks 😀 i reckon you'd love it if you tried one 🙂

Hmmmm, I'd thought about the Handsome Dog steel frames but they don't do them any longer. Rock Lobster is tempting but again is disc only 😕 The new Inbred Swapout frames look great (bolt-on V mounts included) but no stock . . . yet.
If you want low/no travel skinny steel w. v-bosses, I'd head to retrobike or ebay.
Sounds like you might like something along the explosif/kili flyer/dekerf sort of lines?
+ respray if you want it to look new.
Yeah, I guess you're right. Got my Timberline frame from retrobike but an Explosif would be lovely. Winstanleys have new old stock 2001 Explosifs at £149 at the mo' but they're the scandium flavour 😕
meh...
not the same, is it?
No - cracking deal if you're after an oldschool race frame though.

Or a Bizango in 853
have a look for an old 14 inch 1999/ 2000 ish sunn frame. lovely steel
you can run 80mm sus no problem
are you keepin the gt too?
I don't know what size you need but this is on ebay at the moment!
Jay
mamadirt is tiny
are you keepin the gt too?
Probably, although if I need to budget for new forks and aheadset/stem for the new build, I'll probably have to sell it to help funds.
Spotted that frame Jay - looks lovely but far too big for me I'm afraid - ideally I'd be looking at a 14/15"er (my Timberline is 16.5 centre to top and although quite short in the toptube, has very little seatpost showing).
Apologies Sounded a bit rude when re-reading the post and asking 😳
a small gt would fit nicely. I have a 14 inch aggressor same as the one you bought just smaller. I use a commuter if i need one. Lovely little bike. Very nimble. Mines rigid though. Came like that new.( well clearance deal:) Just changed the shifters for gripshift, the crank when the original wore out. The saddle was like a knife so that went. Original hubsa re basic but work fine onroad.
Hey, no worries - just wondered if you might be interested if I were to sell it 😳 😆 . Yes, they're good little bikes - my Timberline is rigid now too. After spending all day searching I reckon it looks like it'll be staying, for a while at least. I've just spotted this . . . pretty damn perfect, exactly what I've been looking for . . . but waaay too pricey 😯 😕 Now where did I put my money box?
what about an older Rocky Mountain Blizzard? Mine came with v-brake mounts and discs mounts. Reynolds 853 handbuilt by some pretty darn good welders, is a 2003 model and i picked it up for about a third of the price of that Thorn
Ooooh yes, I'd love a Blizzard 😛 . I know Merlin had some old stock at good prices a while ago - nothing now though 😕
not steel - but a STEAL 😉
never used this site though - think they're same frma eas the brand x xc.
Looked into gettiung on ages ago and had good reviews, didnt see a single negative about them - cannot remeber which shop used to punt them out
i'd say the 14 inch is the best bet..from memeory

Oooh, that is a bargain. They have an ebay shop too.
there's this too.

I chatted to the original shop (selling them as their own in house brand) and decided the double butted one would be tougher.- ages ago - plus the hanger may still around on Chainreaction - although i think there was a few different brand x xc models and hangers over the years.
i think they went for £90 ish originally for a double butted one.
i think the triple butted one is different to the brand x
probably worth looking at some reviews though if you can as cannot remember the tt length for 14 and 16
