Does anyone know of a steel fork that looks like a classic MTB unicrown fork but designed for non-suspension corrected 700c (so around 400mm a-c) with wide 2" tyre clearance and disc only?
Oh and it needs rack mounts as well.
29er forks are too long, and touring bike forks are bit tight on clearance.
Do you mean something like that fitted to specialized awol? I am guessing they won't be available as separate fork though 😕
I think Shand do one. At least I've got a steel 700c fork on my Stoater with rack mounts, discs and stacks of clearance. (I think the A-C is somewhere around 407mm but can't recall right now).
kona do the project 2 in a flavour that would suit.
i have 1 on my gravel bike.
If you want it cheap and agricultural, you can get them from bankruptbikes (omething like that) on ebay. I got one for my town bike, it's an old dawes hybrid fork covered with eyelets, 420 a-c (think they do shorter), clearance for 2" tyres, disc only £30. Weigh a ton but doesn't matter.
Surly do a few, like this thing, but not pretty or light

Surly Straggler looks about right: http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/frames-forks-c6/rigid-forks-c51/surly-straggler-cx-disc-fork-p10556
Yes the Awol fork or Project 2 is what I'm after, however neither seems to be available aftermarket - only on their bikes.
Dawes fork look kind of OK but I was concerned about weight and steerer length
The Surly forks are lugged and a bit spindly for my bike but thanks.
I think M:Part do a disc only unicrown fork, but 450mm a-c though,
https://www.evanscycles.com/m-part-rigid-26-mountain-bike-fork-EV146182?esvt=1028-GOUKE302584&esvq=&esvadt=999999-0-33698-1&esvcrea=61233752936&esvplace=&esvd=c&esvo=EV146182-NA-NA&esvaid=50080&gclid=CIb6vNXB684CFRZuGwodDQMEAQ
and identiti do various unicrown disc only jump forks but they may not look right for you.
Thanks, that M part fork is too long plus it will be thee wrong offset being fro 26"
Corroded - what is the biggest tyre you can fit in the shand fork?
salsa vaya fork. 1.95 tyre definitely fits, never tried bigger.
Kona project 2 700c will fit a 42c tyre at most before you're in danger of coming into contact with the crown.
They also don't appear to be sold anymore but they certainly were a standaline product in the past.
Ah.
Vaya fork looks good.
Now to track one down... seems they are not in stock anywhere!
you can get genesis croix de fer cro mo forks on ebay, right length and everything else, just have to find the right colour...
Ho hum the cdf fork is about 300g heavier than the vaya.
Will see if I can find a vaya fork, otherwise I may go for something like the CDF.
A cotic escapade or shand fork might work if they will sell them.
These would also be perfect:
Soma 400 ac an 60mm tyre clearance:

Shame theres nowhere to get them in the UK.
EDIT, there is £134 https://cycleworx.co.uk/collections/soma/products/soma-straight-blade-cx-fork
these may also be a chunk heftier than the vaya. but they "look" right.
I just picked up a unicrown disc fork for my Lemond cross bike, from eBay, there's a seller selling a few Dawes ultra galaxy forks for around £39.
Im fitting it when I get home.
Great - I'd be interested in what those weigh - any chance you can put them on a scale before fitting?
Also a pic on the bike!!
I'm in France at the moment, don't get back till late Sunday so won't get anywhere near my bike fixing until Monday evening.
SJS (Thorn) do something. States tyres upto 40c with guards so might fit 2" tyres without. Only 383mm a-c though buy choice of offset.
a-c is 400mm for CX forks, touring forks are usually 380-390. The surly disc trucker is 390mm, the Straggler 400mm. Straggler probably spot on for your requirements.
Right, to give closure to this thread I bought these:

Steel
Unicrown
2 sets of dropout bosses
Low rider mounts
410mm a-c
50mm offset
Decent tyre clearance
£60
As a bonus they will mate with my integrated headset.
50mm offset means they should be nice with the bike front loaded.
