Hello,

Can you
Help me out with a recommendation of steel hardtail frame, to be set up with a 120/130 fork. Looking at a Cotic soul or Stanton slackline at the moment,
Something you can ride happily all day Xc on or if needs be a bit of trail riding,
Already have a full suss, and have just sold my 275 bfe frame.
Fancy a change , would like to hear you thoughts on this

Cheers

PaulH

Stif Morf - regret selling mine. One of the best steel hardtail bikes I’ve had. Not sure why, it just rode great on everything. Sold it as I was full suspension curious. Don’t think you can go wrong with Cotic or Stanton though. I’ve owned a Soul and a Bfe (both great) and gaze longingly at Stanton’s offerings.

What's the difference between XC and trail riding? Is it the bagginess of one's shorts?

Do it!

I have just bought a Stanton Sherpa and am loving it. It climbs like a rocket and zips along at speed. Twisty singletrack is a hoot. I'll probably never ride my Trance 29er again.

You can't beat a steel hardtail but they do differ in feel so try and test ride first. I've had many over the years and all had a different feel. My Pipedream Scion was identical geometry to my (snapped) Soul but rode like it was dead. The Sherpa has replaced a Production Privee Oka - great bike going down but so slooowww climbing.

What size are you? I've got a Pace RC529 frame in XL going. Can be used with 130mm-150mm fork and it climbed like a Goat with a 150mm fork on it!

Love my hardtail - it’s not steel - but it just feels zippy and alive. I haven’t had a steel hardtail since a Gary Fisher Mamba back in the late 90’s but that bike was such a good all rounder (nothing exotic - just double butter 4130).

I think I’d be looking at a Stanton if I had the money for a steel hardtail - they just look so nice. They’re not as good value for money as Cotic for like for like steel used but there’s something about them I prefer. Maybe it’s just as simple as better paint jobs.

The massive difference between the Stanton Slackline and any New Cotic bike is the length. The 16.5 Slackline I have has a 415mm reach, whereas the equivalent Cotic is probably 40mm longer.

I think the Stanton rides brilliantly, and is the best climber that I've ridden (and good on the descents), but if you want a super long bike then I'd look at Cotic.

Edit - also look at the Sherpa from Stanton if you want a 120mm fork.

I would go for a Pace RC529. Haven't ridden one but just like the light blue colour! And it is 853 like many of the competitors.

Mine's the stealth colour with grey graphics. It's the best hardtail I've ridden, but I'm just not a fan of hardtails anymore 🙂

So a no go on the frame , but would of definitely be interested, have been speaking to Stanton today about a couple of options, so let’s see what happens.

Following this thread with interest. Looking to get a demo booked for the RC529 down at Dalby in the coming weeks. Im 6ft so keen to see how the long geometry affects size choice.

Well, me and my wife loved how the Pace frames ride but she's the same as me (likes to charge over roots and rock gardens etc). She's listing her RC127+ frame in small next week as it's been replaced with another full sus 🙂

I will say one thing about the RC529. Despite the length, it's the best jumping bike I've had. Always felt really stable and balanced (I'm crap at jumping too).

I picked up one of the last Pace RC127. Great bike, currently running a 140mm fork and that feels like as much as you'd ever really need.

A lovely balance between flex and stiffness, with the angles just right (for me) for anything between ragging it around a trail center, or all day across the moors.

I've had the Next Gen Slackline since launch,it's been a great bike for me .It does all I ask of it,and then some. I've really enjoyed owning it .I run it with a 140mm fox 32.
I'm 5'7" and have the small one-16.5" .
Stantons regularly seem come up in just about unused showroom condition second hand too so may be able to grab a bargain.

I bought a Stif Morf to replace a SC chameleon that got nicked. It’s twice the bike the SC was and all my other bikes tend to gather dust now.
