I'm considering a new road frame... Quite fancy something in steel, regular brakes not discs... Any ideas?

Why do you want a steel frame?

If you are looking for "lively", get a good one, if all you care about is something that looks the part then buy the cheapest thing looks ok.

Be aware there is a world of difference between a cheap gas pipe frame and EOM, 953, 853, Platinum OX, Xcr, etc

Just picked up an Italian jobby. Only wanted a nice steel hack, but this seems to have lived an easy life in Italy. It's only just been brought into the UK.
What I'm saying is that good steel frames do come up second hand. retrobike is a good place to look.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.... Enigma and Mercian look real nice but alas well out of price range... I wasn't familiar with Soma before so thanks for that suggestion...

How about pushing the boat out with a Shand? They look lovely, handmade in Scotland, and can do custom. Check out the gallery with the 29er for the tall guy - that bike is huge!

Edit - just saw your last post, nevermind!

Recently got a Surly Pacer. Geometry is excellent, back end is nice and responsive, fork isn't stiff enough if you're a big chap like me but might be lovely if you're on the wispy side of things.

The Singular Osprey looks good. Not ridden one myself but if it's as good as the Swift or Peregrine you won't be disappointed!

A nice PINARELLO TREVISO at the bottom. Bit small though.

Had a quick search but couldn't find any however if you can find one of the old stock salsa primero frames, they were going for about £400 with an original retail of £1600!!!!! Manged to get one and it's a stunning ride. They are over sprayed white and branded as a fastrax (yes like the horrible Saracen frame!)
