Maybe this will be pulled, maybe not.
Three weeks in the Alps was unkind to Mrs Ambrose- broken pelvis. Also unkind to my mate Mark- broken spine! Both are recovering, prognoses are good. I got a splinter in my thumb too- boo hoo.
Second last day of riding I bust a spoke in my back wheel. Replaced it out on the trail, gave the wheel a quick true, enough to get me through the last day of the hols.
Decided to true the wheel properly today, only to find a massive split inside the rim, under the tape. About 6 inches long, it definitely isn't a sticker.
DT Swiss XR400 built onto DT 240S hub with Sapim CX-ray spokes, lovely wheel. Until you need to find a replacement 26" rim. Botheration!!!!!
Added to this, I think I'd like a wider rim, a bit sort of AM stylee. I ain't no XC whippet so a burlier rim might be a good idea. 105kg in my socks.
So- normally I'd just replace like for like, but the rim is no longer made, the size is redundant and I haven't got a clue what I need as a slightly wider replacement. I'm still using inner tubes too- does that make a difference?
Can anyone suggest a suitable, sensible replacement? Please, pretty please??
Got a couple of 26" DT 5.1 rims (32 spoke) hanging up as spares I'll realistically be unlikely to ever need.
PM me if interested
DT Swiss EX471 26” on a 240 hub works a treat. Light and bomb proof.
DT still do the EX 471 in 26"
The XR's would have been XC race rims so you'll find these considerably burlier.
Or the FR570 if you really want something meaty.
I've got some DT5.1 on hope pro 2 if you are interested, but not with the fancy Sapim spokes unfortunately. Cambridge based.
