Hello there folks, first time posting on here so hoping someone can offer advice.
There's been plenty of chat about trail, hard hitting hard tails and after much reading, and narrowing it down to the dialled alpine, bfe and the slackline I've decided to go with Stanton.
I have decided next months pay packet will be used for this but I'm unsure as to what size....
2 sizes are available, 16.5 and the 18. I'm 5'10" and live in Ireland. We don't have as an aggressive set up here as across the water but can still find some gnarly trails. I suppose it depends on what riding is done then. Mainly trail, trail centres, occasional long distance xc but still want to hit jumps as and when without feeling restricted.

Any ideas folks would be much appreciated

Cheers

Matt

5'7" and 29" leg and have a 16.5. Running 50mm/740mm cockpit, 125mm/385mm LEV dropper (with about 1.5" inch showing) and 170mm cranks.

Fit is good but probably could go shorter stem/wider bar tbh.

I'm 5'10" and my 18" Slackline was pretty much spot on sizewise IMO. Comfy and stable but still really begging to be chucked about and room for a 125mm Reverb. I was contemplating a 16.5" as I was going to use it as a play bike of sorts but am really happy I didn't go that route. I'm definitely on the long front/short rear bandwagon now.

Nice lads!! Sick bike, pretty much the same set up I'm looking at. So generally we're saying 18" is still great fun?
Sweet!
I sent dan Stanton an email a few months back and after 2 weeks heard nothing. When I sent another email he got back real sharp and apologised. He had drafted a proper detailed email and unfortunately lost it and just with work commitments (building sick bikes) hadn't got round to writing another. So he explained all this and said here's my number, send me a txt with a time that suits and il buzz you. Next evening the awl FaceTime started and it was Dan himself. Funny alright. Pretty much sealed the deal.

And suggestions on gearing or group sets to go for? Thinking of running 1x10....

Cheers

1x10 on mine with 40t hope expander. Lot of money for it tho so superstar one would be a good bet.

With the money saved on the expander get a saint shifter from Evans (get the £5 newsletter discount) unless its cheaper at CRC etc

Great bikes. Loved my 853 (shameless pic time)

[img] [/img]

I had a 16.5 and it was too small. I'm a shade under six foot and swapped a really small BFe jump bike for it, it was fine when I used it as a play bike but I soon realised that hardtails are ace fun and tried to ride it on trails which was hard work being small.

In the end, I swapped it for a large Switchback which is equally ace but actually fits me. Dan's a top chap and really helpful too.

Great bike, you can go either way on the size...

FWIW, I know of a guy selling an 18" Ti frame right now, I could put you in touch. It's in VGC too.

Some lovely looking bikes there lads. Getting the cycle to work scheme approved hopefully in the next few days and start buying parts. From the chat on here I'm leaning towards a 18" frame as I reckon it will suit my riding more. You'll see in this months MBUK the sort of trails in Northern Ireland. Good wee wright up.
Mboy - I'd be keen to talk prices on a Ti for sure. Hopefully have my finished build up here in a few months.
You boys using extenders then? From what I'm reading it's well worth the hassle.....

One up 42t with the RAD cage and a 16t added in. Shimano medium cage mech and it all shifts perfectly. For me could not now imagine moving back to a 2 x 3 x system. Have the range of gears that suit me and my riding.
Less clutter on the bars could go on.

Shredder - are they 150mm pikes??
So got the scheme approved, parts sat in my basket waiting to push the button however encountered another ultimatum.
CRC only have pike rtc3 150mm....
There are however the Revelations rtc3 140mm...
Would these be more suited? Less wandery up front?
Decisions

Forgot to say I've got 160/130 pikes on my ti frame. Picked them up from alltrick.fr for £400. Use them at 130 for the ups and flats, 160 down.

Just about to fit some special tokens to them.

I've got 40t hope and med cage mech and its great. 25lb set up which is great for its gnarliness
