After deciding that I probably don't need another full-blown weight weenie 8kg carbon XC bike, thinking of getting something a bit more trail-orientated that can still work well in the odd XC race. Currently the main contentder is the Stanton Sherpa next gen, 120mm forks, nice light wheels etc etc. Are there any alternatives that I may not have considered that offer good bang for buck, boost spacing, and aren't made of 4130/scaffolding pipes?

Latest Solaris/soda max is the obvious alternative? Or a smaller builder- Shand or BTR spring to mind.
