[Closed] Stans Rims. Has Anyone Not Got Cracked Spoke holes?

I recently bought some secondhand Hope Pro3 xc3 wheels with Stans ztr 355 rims. They were described as used but no dents or damage etc. When they arrived they had micro cracks coming from a fair few of the spoke holes. So small that if you weren't looking you probably wouldn't see them. Thankfully the person who i bought them off is having them back and refunding the money.
I have since contacted 3 sellers of the newer version with the crest rims and have asked them to have a good look at the spoke holes before i buy them. All have come back saying they have tiny crack they never noticed.

After looking on Google it seems like a common occurrence on rims without eyelets and even more common on Stans.

So I'm wondering just how many people are riding with cracked rims. Obviously i'm expecting to get the answer that they are fine to use but i'm not willing to buy second hand ones knowing they are cracked especially when I'm on the upper weight limit already.

It has put me right off buying Stans rims.

Problem is now I need to find some more wheels.

Andy

My 355 rims are still perfect. There are thousands of Stans rims out there and we're not seeing lots of failure reports.

lots of builders still build them too tight.

lots of builders not using tension gauges when doing stans

stans have an ultra fine window for tensioning - too slack and they loosen off - buidler then sticks on another turn , too tight and they begin to pull through the rims.

Both of my pairs (Olympics and Podiums) are still fine.

Are they fine though?

Have you had a proper look?

The 4 people I spoke to all said they were fine until they looked.

And all the wheels have been hope hoops.

So, why not solve the problem and use eyelets then?

My flows and olympics are both fine, and the flows have had a hard paper round.

On the other hand, my old 719s cracked around the eyelets, as has my MTX31. So if we're doing scare stories, everyone should probably check those too 😉
