Hi, I have some Stans Race Sealant and although it says not to inject through the valve core has anyone actually done it successfully?.
It will save me a lot of hassle / mess if I can. I usually seat the tyre with an air shot, remove valve , fill small white Stans bottle with sealant and our in with valve at 8 o clock, screw in valve, over inflate and spin the wheel. Works fine more times than it doesn’t.
Anyone tried it and if so is it just a disclaimer on the bottle to stop a load of complaints or does it actually clog up when injecting through the core.
Thanks in advance
Danny
What's the consistency of the Race formula? Never had a problem with the normal stuff and removable cores.
Other than having a syringe my method is the same as yours.
i've tried it with a syringe, it clogs
Clogs up, plus it leaves all the racey bits in the syringe/bottle.
I live life dangerously and stick the stans in, finish seating the tyre, then inflate. None of this messing about inflating dry, then sealant in afterwards.
just take a bit of the tyre off the rim, pour the race fluid in, put tyre back on rim then use your airshot? less hassle than syringes.
will probably be fine with the valve core removed. if you want a more permanent solution try MilKit valves.
I do it all the time, valve core out, Stans syringe screwed in - it filters through no problem.
We do it all the time to top up. I have the syringe but find a better option is an old Stans bottle. It gives the right amount for top up and goes in quick and easy as the cap is trimmed to fit the valve. I then do a quick in and out on the valve stem with a pipe cleaner. Spray the valve core with silicon spray. Put it back in and blow the tyre back up. Usually takes a couple of minutes per wheel.
I used to have normal Stans and would inject it for top ups, when I went to race noticed the big bits of material would clog the syringe and not transfer through.
@tracey how come you spray the valve core with silicon spray? does it help stop it getting clogged in the future with sealant?
Just makes it easier for undoing and re tightening when checking pressures in between top ups. Never have a problem with valve clogging up or undoing since we started doing it, was a tip from one of the team mechanics when Abigale first started competing.
Standard Stans=no problem through syringe.
Race will NOT go in with the syringe if you have shaken it properly-physically impossible-the solids are far too big.
