Spent nearly half an hour phaphing around trying to seat the rubber rim strip, not even close to anything like even slightly sealed, the air couldn't have come out any quicker if there was no tyre there at all. It is obviously beyond my meagre capabilities!!

£50 wasted....

Patience is a virtue. Have a beer then try again.

Have you tried rim tape under the strip? Assuming the air is escaping between strip and tyre bead, a run or two of tape snugs it up. Soapy water and compressor at the garage!

OK here's what you need to do - use copious amounts of neat washing up liquid. Don't mix it with water, just use a paint brush and paint it on as liberally as you can, around the tyre/rim interface, on both sides. It will be messy, but it will work. You should be able to inflate using a track pump, a compressor shouldn't be needed.

Don't give up!

UST / tubeless set-ups vary hugely in how much of a &&&& they are to seat. I've had the same tyres take 1 1/2 hrs to seat one day and gone on first time the next time.

A BIG blast of air does help, so gas cannister it or compressor as the tyre doesn't have time to leak.

By the way has anyone managed to get a 2Bliss tyre to stay &&&&&&&& inflated? I have 100mm of latex in (well spun up) and the &&&&&& thing still goes flat in 24 hours!

Spent nearly half an hour phaphing around

Giving up after spending less than half an hour trying to do something isn't very long - and I say that as someone who has zero patience !

I was lucky in that the Stan's No Tube set up on my present bike was fitted by my LBS (free of charge), but I reckon you should definitely give it another go. I never cease to be surprised just how much I can achieve by simply walking away, having a break, and returning with a different attitude - it's always difficult to do awkward stuff when you're all wound up and stressed out. And that rule equally applies to people who are 'experts'.

Have another go in a calm unhurried manner. Put aside loads of time to do it - far more than you probably need. Good luck.

DT tubeless kit is a complete @rse and i'm just lucky that i didn't split it getting it onto 5.1 rims, and then conti 2.4 tyres I'm sure are too small to fit the rim as i practically had to use my pro pedal spanner to get them up over the edge of the rim. god know what happens if I actually get a puncture as I won't be able to get a tube in there...

What geetee said + don't try fitting kit for first time with new folded Tyres. If new Tyres then rode them tubed a couple of times. Fitting will then be much easier.

How well shaped are the beads of the tyre you're using? Those difficult inflations I've had have nearly always been down to that.

Try inflating the tyre to its max pressure with an inner tube over night and try again tomorrow,

Or inflate the ture off the rim with and inner tube (with care) I prefer this method, since it spreads the beads wider.

It may also depend on the brand of tyre you're using.

what tyre you trying to set up? Some just don't work as they are too loose a fit on the rim. I have done a few tyres now, both non tubeless and tubeless ready tyres, and it varies significantly how easy they are to fit. Maxxis non tubeless are generally OK but need a blast of air to seat, i've tried a couple of specialized with no sucess, bonty tubeless ready were easy with a trackpump, maxxis LUST were very easy with a trackpump.

CO2 canisters really help to get the tyre seated in the first place, but there must be a fairly tight fit between the tyre and stip. As a general guide, the harder it is to get the tyre on, the easier it seals 😉

tubeless ready tyres are sooo much easier to inflate.

Just press as hard as you can on the tyre over the valve trying to stop the air getting in. And pump like hell. Or yer lot's of soap

You need a compressor.
