Just bought a pair of Hope wheels with Crest rims. Fitted a Maxxis Aspen 2.25 folder to it with yellow rim tape (going tubeless)pumpes up to 30psi & it blew off the rim ,ears still ringing,so I put 2 layers of yellow tape on & all seemed fine , pumped them up to 40psi no problem.
My question is - has any one else used 2 layers of Stans yellow 25mm rim tape on Crest rims & is it safe.
I have not ridden on the wheels yet.
Thanks for any comments.
Jeff

I had 2 Apsen 2.25" on Crests during the dry months with out any problems. I still have a 2.1" on a different bike with Crests, it's been on there about 6 months without problem. I think I double wrapped them to get a better seal.

Cheers AWH , I was not sure if they would stay on in use & did not want to risk rideing the wheels with out some reassurance.

I hate to say it but once they blow off the rim they are way more likely to do ti again. My advice is if you are going to use that tyre tubeless put it on the back! Had exactly the same issues with some HR II's.

Good point. Crest rims are great for running Maxxis tyres tubeless but your tyre may now be a bit loose to seal well. In my experience it isn't a problem specific to the Aspen tyre.

I had a Ralph blow of the rim, on inspection I had slightly damaged the bead putting it on (it had twisted slightly) it wouldn't run tubless after that

Yep - as mentioned, once a tyre blows off the rim they usually kink - which I wonder is what Cooper had seen.

Was the tyre new? I find used Maxxis tyres aren't very good to run tubeless, brand new they're still a bit sloppy; Schwalbe are the best I've used on Crest rims, up with a track pump straight from the box.
