Can someone please advise me on a mtb route covering Stannage edge, suitable for a 10yr old to ride, he is fairly capable of 15 miles...
As we're planning on doing such a ride later this week !..ta..
There is only one Stanage route - the causway.
Its a fair climb, but difficult to put into a circular ride without big hills, lots of road and a good distance.
A better ride would be out to the Fox House over Houndkirk from Endcliffe, back in via same way OR down the new routes....
There is little point in going to Stanage unless you are going to go down the front of it as pretty much everything around it involves loads of tarmac.

There's also the plantation route, which splits off from the causeway route about 1/4 of a mile after Stanage Pole. But I wouldn't recommend it for a 10 year old (it scares the life out of me!)
The causeway can be linked with Wyming Brook, Houndkirk and Lady Cannings
Apologies, the plantation *is* the Causeway since they made it all flat, a few years back when I left Sheffield...ya boo...
I hear what ya saying guys, dya think the Hayfield Loop may be better then ?..
Where are you staying?
How much climbing and rocky descending is the small rider used to?

Apart from the stunning scenery. And as tarmac goes it's a pretty good road - particularly if their are plenty of climbers out. And I presume the OP is more interested in getting away from traffic than something gnarly

Then the cliff face surrounded by 4 car parks is not the place to be heading, its a total bimbler's honeypot.
