Now I'm fully aware that in the bike industry there is no such as a standard standard 🤔but this just about takes the biscuit.
I bought a couple of Zefal water bottles with covers for the mouthpiece. The other day I went to put one in the cage and it slipped fell on the floor and split ( obviously only a couple of feet and zero force 🙄) anyway I thought at least I can use the top on a different bottle , sure enough a different size than other makes Ive got 🙄 that's frustrating but at least I can just transfer the mouthpiece cover ? Nope the loop that's attached to is also a different size ! 😡😡😡😡
If they can't even standardize bottles that are made for " standard" cages is it any wonder there is no such thing as a standard anything 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I found the same with a Zefal bottle. It bounced off the bike & broke the bottle, but the mouth bit was good so I though I'd just put the top onto another bottle I had... nope. Different thread.
Yep another classic example of what I term "Non compatability profit" Components aren't made for the convenience of the end user.
Zefal must use a really brittle plastic , I've got other bottles that have lasted for years .
OTOH Camelbak bottles have the same thread over several different generations.
My experience with Zefal has been that they’re shit.
I find different brands of bread either fit or don't fit in my toaster.
In all seriousness whilst I would admit it would be easier for the consumer and certainly the environment I think the bike industry gets it tough when the word standards crop up.
Car parts are rarely cross compatible amongst models from the same brand
Do coffee machines all take the same environmentally unfriendly pods ,no!
It's a bit tongue in cheek with my examples but you get my drift .
I honestly don't think it's that bad
Similar thing - I like the camelbak podium caps and, when my bottle go to the manky point where it had to go, I thought I'd use the top (which can be dismantled, cleaned in Milton fluid, then reassembled) on some High 5 bottles that I had from those promotional packs.
The lids fit and screw on quite nicely, but don't seal very well, meaning that until you've drunk some, a bottle on the down tube will leak down your bike and/or leg.
#firstworld problems
OTOH my sttttoooooppppidly expensive YT/Fidlock bottle uses the same top as the cheapest ones I’ve found in Halfords. This also means it leaks.
