Might be old news to some, but ridden a new line to the Plantation today. Straight off the middle of the Edge and down through the left hand side of the plantation
Just looks like a rocky stream at first glance and you wouldn't normally think about riding it, but had a great ride this morning taking lines that you wouldn't think existed.
Great fun, had to share
Is it a legal route?
The bridleway that hooks sharply left at the top and gives you a choice of either large step to drop off to the left or a smaller step fraught with exposure to the right?
Good fun that.
Is it a legal route?
No idea tbh.
Definitely some some cheeky today though, but been nothing but courteous to walkers and had no animosity whatever - surprisingly, considering how busy it was. Most seemed impressed that we were riding bikes over the terrain we were rather than annoyed. Sometimes if you present yourselves in the right manner you don't get greif

It's just a little gully that you wouldn't really think about. You ride up the road from the bottom, look at the Edge and wouldn't think there was a route off there
Our route and the arrow showing the normal plantation descent

Nice. I've never ridden up that way, only from Redmires. I'll bare that one in mind for next time.

We normally do Houndkirk and then Redmires, but had a new guy out with us who showed us a route from the top of Lady Cannings to Burbage, then over again to ride along the Edge, rather than up to the pole. Then we did the descent. So much more fun.
Higger Tor after that. Totally cheeky, but brilliant riding
Yeah I’ve done that a few times. Looks scarier than it is I reckon (though I imagine it’s very wet right now?), and it loses too much height vs fun ratio IMHO. I really like the bit through the bottom of the plantation that way though.
Yep, it turns in to a swamp in winter. I’d agree to avoid it until it’s dry as it’s deteriorated a lot in the last few years already. My running club used to include it in a local fell race and now avoid it due to concerns of damage.
It wasn't too bad at all. We did avoid another path that the guy leading us knew would be bad
