Quick question about this and changing bars. Bars are exactly the same ones, but I’ve damaged the previous ones. So No shortening of cables required. They are internally routed however

With shimano, you’d need to cut off the old barb and olive as it appears to be a compression fit, otherwise the nut won’t fit through the hole in the bar

with sram, it looks like the olive unscrews. Does this mean I can avoid cutting the old barb and olive off, simply unscrew, thread through the bars, then reuse the old bits. Don’t mind getting some new olives if required, but don’t particularly want to cut a cm off the cable length as they are very close to the limit of shortness anyway

It’s a road bike with old 11 speed etap hydro if that makes any difference

Getting the Barb out without damaging the hose is a buggeration.

Why do I need to take the barb out? Doesn’t it just unscrew from the olive or is that not the case?

Ah I’m being a fool. Obviously the olive still has to crimp over the hose so no way you’ll be able to unscrew it…😩

Yeah, it’s bolt, olive, barb. So to get the olive and bolt off the cable, the barb needs to come out.
