Can anyone reccomend a wheel builder in staffordshire, near Lichfield that would be able to build me a DH wheelset, providing appropriate spokes for a reasonable price?

Crikey, so there IS someone else on here from Lichfield then... 🙂

My mate uses Henry Burton in Stafford. They always seem a good qualiry build. Me...I do my own, they're not perfect but good enough for an old potterer-ambler like me.

Well this is something I didn't think i'd see, A fellow Lichfield'er. Techinically I'm from shenstone but close enough for me!

Thanks for the suggestion I'll check them out now. I fancy having a go at doing my own however I will be using these for DH so they need to be half decent and are 150mm spacing, Am I right in thinking thats harder?. I think I might pick up a cheap rim and hub and have a go myself over christmas though.

Simon is a gent @ Peloton cycles Rugeley. He built my race wheels (road) nearly two years ago, yet to require a true-up! Tell him Patrick sent you if you go 😉

I had some wheels from Longstaff's ages ago when George was still with us. They did 20k loaded touring tandem miles before the brake tracks wore thin. No niggles, maintenance etc at all in that time. Still using the hubs on original bearings....

A mate of mine had some wheels built at betd goldtec a few years ago. I bought them off him a year or so ago and to my knowledge, they have never been re trued and are in excellent condition even now.

In my opinion, the chap who runs peleton cycles is a total numpty.Only went there once and have never returned. To be fair he rectified his mistake at his own cost but left me with no confidence in him at all.
Mark @ Swinnertons has built me a couple of pairs of wheels that have remained true and stood the test of time and would happily recommend.

Every mech/shop makes the odd mistake. I could give examples but it's late. He built the wheels for me, they've held up well, thus recommended.

Another vote for Henry Burtons, several faultless wheelsets from there over the years. Even my son who does a lot of downhill racing struggles to destroy wheels built by them, mine last forever. 🙂

Had a wheel trued at Peleton in Rugeley and it was fine. The shop is 5 minutes walk from home but apart from that one job I havent used it since I was a kid when it was J & M. Had a few wheels built by Mark at Swinnertons on the Chase. Not the cheapest for spokes and wotnot but cracking tight builds.
