Can I be the club medic?? - benzos and beta blockers for all (gotta give myself a chance of beating someone!)
I used to do speedway, but got dizzy....('tis true actually!)

I suspect running a club will entail significantly more admin than organising a race. Would also supplant the previous 'passing the flame' nature of SSUK organisation. The fact it hasn't happened this year is a shame but perhaps makes it the most singlespeedy of SSUK's yet...

sam.

i prefer being secretary to a race organiser...moaning competitors...nothing ever right...

the constitution of the club would potentially be an issue as different people have different requirements. there'd have to be an agreed vision. but, being singlespeeders i'd expect a easygoing attitude.

ssuk or ssec could host the agm ovr a pint! 😀

Here's a possibly interesting point of fact.

For SSEC2010 The KoN actually had to join the BCF to get over the red tape as Charlie has suggested (other orgfanisations are available)
The TLI bottled out when they heard it was a European event.
On the day of the event all you lucky people had those little round stickers.
These actually confirmed you had paid up and were associated members of the KoN for the day of the event and you were insured with the BCF levy.

I did read somewhere once that sooner or later SS champs would be decided over the internet !

Events have to evolve or people will just stop coming.

So bring on SSUK 2013 sounds like fun

There needs to be a race! should just merge SSUK with the Keilder 100 that would sort out the men from the boys possibly, just the 50 mile cat and that would sort out the leftover beer @ the end of the K100 event. The KON would look @ home @ the castle 😀

That sounds brill, I thought, I know the area, I love the pub, Charlie should be able to organise a piss up nowhere near a brewery, then Bugger I thought that's when me and my non cycling other half are on our summer hols. Then she suggested going on holiday to Swanage, now I remember why she's so brill...............

Update, coming along nicely

Everything is still tbc
Sunny weather is confirmed
Route sorted.... It's a 25 mile lap. Might be a two lap day for the winners. This may sound long, but you gotta earn your win, and everyone else will be back at the pub after one lap to watch you win, none of this winning and no one seeing your glory.
Possibility of starting at the nudist beach with naked folk getting a small head start. Also handy for fat bikes.
Talking to a few farmers for camping
Post race hog roast and music
Expect everything to be nailed down and entry open by Xmas

Where can you get that spray paint for marking the ground? How rain proof is it? Not that is will rain.

"that spray paint, the fluro stuff"??

You need someone like Srewfix or other hardwear direct to punter shoppee, poss BnQ. Don't forget once it's down it's down and may need scrubbing off the surfaces its been put on, not too sure a pink fluro stripe across the back of a Nudie would go down too well..

You could use whipped cream, that would disintergrate in seconds with hairy beardies riding on it..

What about "police cordon off" tape...

Not doing two laps, fek that.. Thats propers hard.

In, just wondering whether this should provide an excuse for a more racey singlespeed, or would that not be in the spirit of the event?

Expect everything to be nailed down
Expecting a lot of northerners?

25 mile laps? How many beer stops per lap?

Not sure I can go that far without a beer at a SSUK event...

Can't belive I have only just seen this. I was at the square 2 weeks ago on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Popped by your place on the Sat Charlie but you must have been sleeping/drinking or something as the shop was closed. Well up for this after missing 2012 and 2011 being rather damp

Still aiming for that bank holiday weekend.

I am so very nearly there on this.

Three campsites (fields) are in the running: on hill stones throw from pub. On hill a mile from the pub.. and miles from anything next to the harbour (but no campervans). While this is being nailed down, I will crack on with the club side of it.

The name of our club is looking like SSORRTS.. single speed off road reliability trials society. or Friendly association (of) Reliable Trialists (FART). But please feel free to help me on this. the gist is off road single speed reliability trials, if you need an S to make its better... "sportives".

So sometime around xmas/new year... I will let you all know the dates, where (here), how much (not much) and we are on...
