Goodness just got my hands on my first Hope rear hub (ProII evo). It's noisy! Any way to quieten them down?
cheers
adam
take freewheel off, put lots of grease in with the springs and pawls, put freewheel back on
Wear ear plugs.
Don't ride bike.
Pretend an angry swarm of bees is chasing you so you go quicker.
Don't stop pedalling......ever (freewheeling is for fannies anyhoo).
you get used to it, then it weird when you ride a non hope wheel..
Just ride it, sooner or later (sooner!) the pawl springs will break and it'll be nice and quiet.
They are very useful around here as a bit of freewheeling can alert walkers, saves having a bell on the bike 😉
Are you mad! That noise is why you buy a hope hub. 🙄
Remove freehub, remove 3 pawls, put freehub back on, win at life.
Yay! It wasn't an IT related thread about Secure Shell 😉

I was going to suggest filling the freewheel with PuTTY...
It's the best part.
My (not-particularly-interested-in-bikes) wife simply doesn't understand why I explain to her, when we're cycling together, that the noise from 2 HOPE freewheels is one of the finest sounds in the world.
the noise is there to annoy your non hope friends, when you're drafting them on road bits and not having having to pedal to keep up coz they're so flipping slow.
+1 for appreciating the noise from Hope freehubs.
It's on my top five list of noises, along with the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin at full chat, an Alfa Milano V6 with a straight through exhaust, a trained operatic soprano practising her scales and Skylark song during high summer.
