Having failed to find anything off the shelf that fits the bill I’m planning singlespeed CX build (SSCX!) my requirements are loosely as follows:

- frame large enough to suit someone 6’5”
- hydro disc ready
- eyelets for mud guards
- SS specific drop outs. No tensioner
- nothing overly fancy/expensive as will be left at station / pub etc
- clearance for modest size tyres up to around 35mm
- possibly some cheapy carbon rims for aesthetics and robustness

Would be nice to have something raw looking in line with the raw and honest traits of a SSCX. I won’t be using it for racing or anything like that. It’s a daily hack and occassional tourer.

Suggestions for where to source affordable good quality parts Would be much appreciated. And of course photos of your SSCX builds for motivation!

Thanks

Are cheap Carbon wheels robust?

I have the SS specific version of this frame. The Alfine version has some extra brazeons but is essentially the same.

This is mine as set up for last year's Dirty Reiver

On-one Pompetamine

It's an On-One Pompetamine. It used to have an Alfine 11spd hub but that broke so I decided to build up a winter SS hack. Cheap On-One wheels, a SS kit (also from On-One) and WTB Riddler 37C tyres set up tubeless. There's also a Surly Tugnut just to keep things in check. Total cost of parts was £120 but half of that was the wheels and most of the rest was the tyres.

If there's a charity bike shop near you have a look in there to see if there's a suitable frame, or indeed bike.
