Hi there,

Got NOS Superstar V6 hub based wheelset, that's been sent to friend of mine, quite a distance away.

My fault, I should have checked it before shipment but tough I guess. On me...

Wheels arrived OK, after 59 days in transit, but that is topic for another time and box was undamaged, so happy days.

Unfortunately after test fit into the frame friend realized that it spins with visible resistance.

As per video below:

Perhaps somebody else had similar issue? Perhaps SSC STW Resident will see that one and suggest remedy?

Cheers!
I.

I had one that was similar

I think it freed up after a couple of rides, but in hindsight, that may have been because I moved it to a different frame and swapped endcaps

So it's potentially worth popping them off and seeing if it spins any better?

Cheers!

He already started fiddling with the hub, so far no luck.

Any other ideas please?

Cheers!

Perhaps missing a spacer. Is the test fit with the axle tightened? Is there the same resistance if you spin the wheel when holding it (not tightened in the frame)?

There are actual seals which work so they touch and have friction. Feel free to take them out if you want a spinny unsealed product.

You can grease them to make it spinny but that just attracts grit which kills the seals.

Basically there’s naff all mass for momentum in just an alloy rim. Once it’s got tyres and 100kg of human onboard all that “friction” becomes irrelevant.

If the friction is excessive when clamped then there’s a spacer missing or the plastic seal isn’t snapped in fully.

Thanks!

I suggested to him to take the hub apart and examine spinning of each to see if that is indeed just seals or anything else, like missing spacer.

@dc1988, same result in the frame and outside of the frame hand held only.

Cheers!
