Morning all,
I’m a serial buyer of SS road bikes which get sold when I get bored of them alas they seem to keep appearing in my shed.
Done loads of different ones from Pommpinos and Roadrats to Tricross, Flyer and now a Dolomite.
I’m loving the Dolomite as it’s disc’s up with an EBB so low maintenance/faff alas 28mm tyres are it’s limit.
What I’d love is a steel frame, carbon forked disc set up like my Fairlight Secan that can take some bigger rubber for back lane road abuse but with an EBB or sliding dropouts for a clean SS setup.
That RG Evans post earlier in the week got me pondering if there’s anything off the shelf that would work without going custom? I’m at a loss so thought I’d ask on here and see if anyone was aware of anything?
Thanks
Tim

Depending on your budget and if you want more road or gravel, I’d be looking at a Singular frame. I’ve got a Rooster which is properly monstercross with 29+ wheels in it, but they do some lovely gravel frames.

I don’t like the looks of the new Peregine. I’m too young for a Carradice bag too ;o)

Day one? Bit Mleh/utilitarian imho

Find a frame you like that has a BSA BB shell and fit a Trickstuff Exzentriker with a 24mm spindle crank of your choice.

Nature cross single? Clearance for up to 42mm tyres, eye catching paint, you don't have to run it with knobbly rubber.

Singular have never really got my juices flowing.

If not a Swift then a Swallow?

I’m still set on a custom from singlebe

Unless something used/customisable comes along.

The All City is an option but it feels expensive for what it is £1500/1800 for f&f.
That Singlebe is EXACTLY what I pictured. Modern looking but simple. I don’t want something that would fit in at the Wednesday CTC Aidan run 😆

Isn't Surly Stormchaser a SS gravel bike?

I've got an Arkose SS in khaki splatter paint. Converted to 1x11 with bar end shifter, but planning on putting it back to SS. Not steel but alu, EBB and 40mm 700cc tyre clearance. Come up on eBay fairly often. Would love a Stormchaser though!

I was going to say storm chaser but I read the OP and didn't want to embarrass myself by suggesting an aluminum frame 😉

The Stormchaser is on the maybe list. Steel is prettier but it’s a contender.

I’ve had two Arkose and they’re nice too for the money. Annoyingly one had an ebb as well but got sold :0/

@p7eaven ‘spaffer’ paint. I’m having that 😄👍
OP you could ask Richard to just build you a frame to suit a carbon fork of your choosing although I think you’d be missing out on the great fork he makes.
I had a non-carradice bag made for mine, although I have had an Audax badge sewn on 🤗

I’m taking a look at a left field option this afternoon. It’s a n-1 bike too so would need to dig deep into the bike account and sell some surplus kit…..
