afternoon

after my N+1 I'm in trouble thread I have been given the permission to get a ss 29er for all my spare parts, (will have to sell the chameleon though) but apart from the obvious cotic simple (which I like the design of) or on one inbred (which I think looks a bit poo)I can't seem to find any off the peg frames that are reasonably priced, i.e. less that £400.
so, o great minds of STW, whats out there?? (I have also considered geared options with ebb)

cheers

El Mariachi or Simple IMO. The rest are either overpriced or not as good 😉

Last time I checked only a few Simples left, if any, with no more on the way.

A little more expensive, but how about the SC highball?

OK - I'll repeat myself from other threads. Best hardtail 29er I've ridden recently is my Voodoo Bizango. I was lucky enough to pick up a frame only on ebay. Set up ss with 120mm forks it is a good ride.
The SC Highball would work, but in my mind the top-tubes are on the short side. At 5'10" I would be looking at getting a large to get best ett, leaving me with a 19.5" seat-tube.

I found all of the sc bikes I have ridden too short in the tt, the chameleon was/is a great bike but its so stiff that, when coupled with all my injuries, it beats the crap out of me. I'm 6 foot so will need large frames. will have a look at the voodoo, cheers

I should have said - the Voodoos are full-build only, unless you are lucky and fidn somebody selling a frame. Still worth buying one 2nd hand and using the bits until they wear out.

If you do get one the headtube is 44mm, and will need a different headset with an external bottom cup (I got a Hope) to run tapered fork. The stock fork is 120mm with a straight steerer.

Work out what toptube length you want (or even better reach), then go from there, when I was looking for a 29er I found the highball wasn't as short as past santa cruz's

Size Top Tube Seat tube standover

Genesis fortitude 20.5 625 520.7 825.5

Santa Cruz highball XL 635 533.5 821.2

Grand canyon al slx 29 l 610 485 831

Grand canyon al slx 29 xl 630 545 869

One one scandal 29er 21 640 533.4
