Riding my bike yesterday and an aweful noise is coming from rear wheel which I'm presuming must be hub bearings or something.
I've taken the cassette off and can't remove the freehub body (SRAM XD) from the hub itself. I'm presuming they just pull off like the hope ones I've serviced in the past. No amount of pulling seems to work so before I out it in a vice and really give it a tug am I doing something wrong, the videos on YouTube make it look like a newborn baby could pull one off.
For context I am running Reynolds tr307 wheels with a reynolds t6 hub. Pretty rare wheels I think and there's little adduce online.
Any help would be appreciated.
Pete
I find the hope drivers hard to pull off. I normally loosen the cassette slightly then use a drift on the back of the cassette to tap it off to get the seal I popped. Not sure about the Reynolds Hub, but if it’s meant to pull off this might help.
Not familiar with your hub, but not all freehubs pull off.
If it should pull off, I lightly reattach the cassette so I have something to pull with. If it's still tricky, I use a bearing removal tool to remove the end cap first. Usually most of the resistance is in that o-ring.
Ok I'll try and reattach the cassette a little and pull from there. I've looked at an exploded diagram of the hub and there doesn't seem any special way of removing it. cheers for the replies
Flats on the end caps, or hex fittings in the ends of the axles will usually tell you if they're not just push on parts.
