Hi guys
I have just bought the above rear mech and tbh I am not impressed. Straight out of the box I found the mechs spring to be not as strong as the standard X9 rear mech that it was replacing. Being new to clutch mechs I thought maybe it would work properly when fitted to the bike in conjunction with an upper chain guide and a chain running through it, unfortunately this was not the case. I have just returned from its first ride out and what a disappointment.
I had more chain slap than I have ever had on any bike which is the opposite of what its supposed to do! I am starting to think that I've been sent a faulty one.
Has anyone got or had one of these and if so what did you think of it?

Cheers
Craig

Just to add..... I have the clutch in the correct setting and the chain is the right length.

not really surprised? It's SRAM after all

took 2 brand new rear mechs (X-7 and X-9) out of boxes, to bolt onto customer bikes last week, both so sloppy in the main pivot (the bolt that attaches the derailleur to the derailleur hanger on the frame) that we had to send both back for warranty

not the first, or second time, this has happened, seen it many times on new bikes built (PDI) from boxes with SRAM mechs, often on the 10 speed bikes where they won't hold gear due to the sloppy pivot

I have the mech you have and it instantly made my bike much quieter as there was no noticable chain slap. I think it sounds like you have a faulty one.

That's good to know...I've bought a shit mech 🙂
Tbh I've never had a problem with there stuff before. I prefer Sram gears to Shimano and love Rockshox forks. Maybe I've bought a faulty one.

Edward - are you running 1 x 10 with a top chain guide?

I have 2 of the X9 Type 2/Clutch mechs. No Chain slap at all-working faultlessly in ice, snow, mud etc. Sounds like something is badly wrong with yours!

I bought a type 2 X9 just after they were released. It has worked perfectly from day one and i very rarely ever maintain my bike.

Im running a single ring, upper guide and a short cage mech and i get very little chain slap.
