I've got 9 speed XTR on my old hardtail and for my 'new' hardtail picked up 10 speed X0 10 speed shifter and mech for very good price.
However, it appears not to be as nice to use as the XTR - the upshift trigger appears a bit awkward to use in comparison - you've got to think about where the trigger is.
Is this the way or can the triggers be adjusted a bit?
Thanks.
Probably just different, it's a different action so probably not what you are used to. Liked the high end SRAM 10sp stuff and in the end went twist as that worked best for me.
I'd say try for a bit longer as you are tied in with shifter mech combonow
It’s just different. I much prefer the feel of sram, it’s a more solid clunk. I’m not as keen on the positioning like you, and worse I hate the lack of multi way release you do get on Shimano so I don’t like it on my XC bike. As mike says youll soon get used to it.
You've got to think about where the trigger is
If you position the shifter before you start the ride - but here's the secret sram ninja trick - then you tighten the hex bolt on the clamp it should solve this.
In seriousness you'll get used to it, probably remarkably quickly. Then you'll use a bike with Shimano gearing and wonder what the horrible sticky out paddle thing you keep catching your fingers on is.
11spd XTr feels different to 9spd. Much more positive more like a rifle bolt than anything else. I’m not sure that you can infer from the brand.
The sram clunk is great, but I'm not so keen on the paddle for the up shifts. The thumb action seems awkward to me.
9sp xtr is just about* the nicest shifter there ever was
(8sp nicer, IIRR)
I have the answer to this.
I now change to a smaller cog by pushing out with my index finger. I miss it when I go back to shimano.
