I am trying to replace the SRAM chainrings on my commuter.
Seems they have a "hidden" chainring bolt behind the crank arm.
The chainring has been supplied with a bolt with a serrated edge, but there's no way that's going to grip onto the chainring - it just spins. On the old chainring (FSA) it's just tight enough that it might do something useful.
Is this normal/expected? Any kind of solution? Have I bought the wrong chainrings (can't really send them back now) ?
Any kind of solution?
Take the spider off, fit a normal chainring bolt, refit spider.
In desperation, I re-read the instructions. Put it in a vice, clamp together using the bolt inserted from the same side as the nut, and Lo! It Worked!
Sram are great at coming up with these new fangled designs. I received a new hose in the post the other day with some threaded olive and barb job. Couldn't work it out from the crappy "instructions" leaflet. Youtube and wow, it's really easy! (stealth-a-majig it's called)
