Assuming you have a udh and that allows the non-type t mech to fit them why not?

There’s definitely a difference with the flat top chain and cassette and the slightly delayed shifting that somehow moves the chain perfectly into the next gear. Presumably the older AXS mech wouldn’t do this and shifting might be not quite so good??

Thanks, the bike came with a UDH in the box of bits, so will give it a go.

Have chucked it on and with some additional adjustments is functioning. The chain would ideally be shortened, but as I hope to have the T type back on next ride I will just avoid the smallest chain ring.

That warning about not reusing the split link, they don't really mean single use do they ?

I've re used quick links multiple times and it's never been an issue. Although officially they should only be used once.

My Shimano supposedly single use quick link has been regularly removed for chain waxing for about 3-4 years. Personally as long as it still clicks in place I’m happy. If it gets loose I’ll replace it.
