For some reason my 2011-ish Boardman CX has a 10 speed Apex Mech and a 9 Speed SRAM cassette. This is how it came from new. It’s taken me this long to work out why the shifting was a bit ropey 🙂

So for the new Turbo that’s a direct drive, I can buy a 10 speed SRAM cassette as I noticed the chain was also 10 speed (I haven’t used it much so it’s still on its first drivetrain). SRAM cassettes are expensive compared to Shimano. The Tacx Hub will take either.

So my question is will a SRAM Apex 10 speed mech (connected to some Rival shifters) work with a Shimano Cassette. I know on MTBs the pull is different but I’m sure I’ve used XT cassettes and SRAM mechs on my old Stache.

Any help gratefully received. And no I’ve no idea why Halfords sold it to me like that all those years ago, but it’s definitely the case.

FWIW my VN Amazon uses a 9 speed MTB mech with 10 speed shifters and mech. Its a well known combination to let you use larger sized cassettes with road shifters.
