Hi folks. Trying to bleed my rear brake and having problems. I bled the front one following the sram video on you tube. My problem is that when I depress the syringe at the caliper end nothing is going into the system.. I pushed that hard that the fluid ended up seeping from the syringe hose! I've tried pushing fluid from the lever end and it gets through but not the other way..
Help!
Has it got thr new bleeding edge fittment? If so have you opened it.
Not got the bleeding edge fitment.. there probably 2015 RSC''s. .
I assume you mean the first step of the procedure which is to open the clips on both syringes and push fluid from the caliper up into the syringe in the lever?
Not sure if it effected the RSC as much as others, but the pistons in guide levers are well known to expand and start sticking. So it is possible that it is not returning fully and the port back into the reservoir is still closed.
Did the lever spring back in normal use before starting or was it sluggish?
Take a look at Epic's bleed instructions, they are easy to follow and spot on.
You won't be pushing much back into the lever, its mainly to remove the final bubbles and pressurise it. The syringe wont move much, and you'll be pulling it as well to remove the final bubbles.
Have you tried pulling slightly on the lever syringe.
(and if you're as daft as me, is the clip on the lever syringe undone :0 )
Have just bled my Guide RSCs with the SRAM kit. It definitely helps to pull up on the lever syringe - in fact if you watch the SRAM video they tell you to pull the oil through from the lever this way but you should hold the caliper syringe vertical whilst doing it to stop bubbles getting back in. I think this problem has a lot to do with the stiction in the syringes they supply though as it definitely got easier after a few goes... you could try pulling the syringes apart and lubricating the rubber seals with some DOT oil before you start. Anyway after several attempts at bleeding and cleaning pistons I now have one caliper with pistons not retracting far enough and the other where they don’t extend to the rotor... so I’m no expert! In fact I’ve given up with them and ordered some Hope E4s 🙂
Thanks for replies. tried several different things at the same time so not sure which one solved the problem! i wasn't using a genuine sram bleed kit so the hose connection's on the syringe's weren't the best - i had to cable tie them to stop fluid leaking! Also, i had the pad contact dial rotated the wrong way.. All sorted now and finally got a brake that works.
thanks
