They run with 2 pawls but the hub can take 4 , would there be any advantage in putting another 2 in ?
It quickens up the pickup I believe. The pawls are offset so you get half the pickup. Whats the current engagement?
I just found a review on mtbr and they suggested the extra 2 too give them a 52 point engagement .
Now to try and find some ...
I took the risk of buying one of these wheels after also reading that extra pawls could be fitted and Sram claiming that these wheels would be "Do it all mtb wheels". I've since found out that spare pawls are unavailable unless you buy the complete freehub at a cost of £75. Currently out of stock in the UK and Fishers not expecting them until mid March. To be honest I don't find just having the 2 pawls that big an issue. What I do find an issue is that the bearings are showing signs of wear (wheel wobble) after less than 50 hours of riding. I know this because I log the hours in order to keep track of my suspension service hours. The seal between the hub and freehub is basically just a rubber washer and I have found water ingress into the ratchet area. On the plus side the wheel has remained fairly true and spoke tension pretty good.
Would I recommend the wheel? No, because it's not standing up to this terrible British winter. Guess its back to Hope for me
The wheels came on MrsbeanZ T130 , they'll have to do for the foreseeable , plus being boost I don't think theres much choice in hubs yet .
There has been some discussion on this topic on MTBR in the 2016 Trek Fuel Ex thread, they have suggested that the newer hope pawls and springs fit, I think they are available from CRC. If doing this I would buy a set of 4 and run all hope to make sure they are all the same.
It is a definite improvement, I bought a second hand (although never used) X0 hub off here and found it to only have 2 pawls, I sent it away to SRAM through my LBS and the fitted the extra 2 and returned it, so in all it cost me postage!
Thanks Bigman I'll have a look on mtbr .
thread resurrection. came across this whilst servicing my ROAM 30 rear hub. Bought a set of the Hope Pro 3 pawls and springs. The Pawls are almost identical. the springs were a tiny bit longer, so i snipped off a fraction. Installed and ridden. work perfectly.
