Hi folks,
Just bought a pair of rival hyd shifters to replace the apex mechanical ones on my gravel bike. Fit them and tighten the clamp ring and they still waggle on the bars. Put the apex ones back on and they tighten no bother. If I move the rival lever to a less curved part of the bar they also tighten ok but are in completely the wrong place. It’s as if there is too much curvature on the bar for the shape of the lever interface, but it is just a std road bar, and my old apex lever goes on fine.
Anyone come across this before or have any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Dave
bumped for the daytime squad, cheers
Have you tried swapping the stainless clamp bands from old to new lever.
I had rival levers on 3 totally different shapes drops and never had a problem.
thanks for the reply. i did swap them, but whilst the bands are the same shape/size the bit with the threads is different between the 2 type which mean the old apex ones dont fit in the recess on the replacement rivals.
its really odd and hard to imagine that my bar is such an unusable shape and incompatible. think i'll find another bar from somewhere and give it a shot to rule it in or out.
cheers
