SRAM Rival hydro brakes sudden hardness

The rear brake on my gravel bike (older SRAM Rival Hdr) has gone rock hard and locked on.  Previously I've found it had an unexplainable habit of pumping up as the pads wore out which mean they needed replacing with ~1/3 of a pad left.

But the pads are still pretty new this time.

Any ideas what the problem is? I've not ridden the bike much this year as I've moved offices and the new building isn't so convenient for a lunchtime blast of-road. It was fine a few weeks ago though.

Not sure I can help much but I started a thread with the exact opposite issue yesterday!

Quantum entanglement is the new internal brake routing.

How clean are the pistons? Could you have grit of some sort on the pistons and it has sealed around them and stopping them move?

Saying that, the lever should still have a bit of movement, so is there something in the lever preventing it from moving?

No, it's locked up like old closed brakes would on a long descent, like there's too much fluid in there and no freeplay in the lever, it still modulates between "hard to pedal" and "locked up" when the lever is squeezed.

I'll give it a bleed and give the caliper pistons/seals and master cylinder a good wash with brake cleaner and then silicone spray to see if that cleans something up and gets it moving. Just curious to know whether anyone had had any similar issues.

master cylinder piston seized so not returning.

master cylinder piston seized so not returning.

That would be the usual SRAM fault, but gives the opposite symptom, the bite point moves further down the travel as you're squeezing the lever a long way before the connecting rod even hits the piston.
