Can I do it?
Compact double 50/34 up front. Currently running 11/34 Cassette, but sometimes would like a lower gear, eg when bike-packing. As my drivetrain needs replacing, was thinking of trying the larger cassette.
It's a medium cage mech, think SRAM advise that you can only run it with a 32t rear cog, so a 36t might be pushing it?
Anyone done this successfully?
Hi,
I'm running 50/34 and 11/34 cassette too... 36 might be a bit of a push...
Cheers!
I.
I've done just what you're considering on A Planet X Dirty Disco. 36 largest rear. I did use a longer B screw. All gears and changes work fine, but the rear mech is at the edge of what it can do and it may affect longevity. It's not that often that I use the easiest gear, but it's useful to have for steep or loose climbs.
I have rival 22 using a 36t cassette and it works fine. It just worked barely as standard but I put on a mech hanger extender and it now works without any problems at all

Ah, sounds promising ... Can you recommend a particular extender?
I think it was a Road link which said it was for Shimano only but it had worked fine.
On my MTB I have got a cheap one off eBay which is just as good and about a third of the price
Hanger extender and you’ll be peachy. I did this for t’waifes build with Rival22 medium cage rear derailleur and an 11-36 cassette. All happy.
