My new bike has got a BB30.

I would rather run a 'normal' threaded one.

Is the Sram adaptor good / reliable?

It looks plastic? - so wondering how an alloy bb cup would thread in without damaging it?

Thanks in advance.

Alan.

Sram are supposed to be pap, I'd go Wheels Manufacturing

Get a Praxis or KCNC if cash is tight - no plastic threads to strip and bearing alignment is maintained.

It works very well. I've fitted a standard XTR threaded BB to a Whyte C29 and it was no problem. Like you, I think the Hollowtech cups are better than the press fit stuff and the SRAM cups seem to be a good way to convert a frame.

Am I correct in saying the Praxis one is actually an adapter & bb?

If so, the £60 asking price seems reasonable.

Praxis' BB adaptor is good but I believe it uses expansion, rather than just push fitting, to fit into a frame. As a result, manufacturers may not honour BB related warranty issues if the carbon in the BB area cracks or fails because of it.

You've bought a new bike?

Is it a green one? 😆

I've been running the sram one for over half a year now. Mostly ok, except it recently started to pull out on the drive side. Pressed it back, but guessing this will happen again. If it does, then i'll swap to a praxis one.

No problem with the threads though. Just be careful.

The KCNC design looks better I think (threaded sleeve)

The Rotor one is almost identical too, but £10 more expensive.

800 offroad miles on a CK bsa threaded bb fitted in the same SRAM adaptor also on a Whyte 29c. Very good solution. My wheels mfg bb30 (not pf30) on a different bike lasted one wet race so forgive me if I don't like new style bbs

The SRAM one is not great..... They have the tendency to "walk" out of the shell if you have a heavy pedal strike.

I replaced mine before the praxis one was available, and the internet recommended loctiteing it in..... I can't remember which variant - but it was one of their stronger ones. No problems since. But slightly dreading ever needing to remove it!
