So I *think* this will work but wanted to check with some of you more knowledgeable folk...

I've got a Voodoo Bizango with full SRAM NX 11sp. I don't love the NX setup, I've already had one derailleur fail catastrophically and nearly take the wheel with it. I'm thinking of switching to Shimano, so am I right that I can just swap the NX derailleur and trigger for the Deore 11sp equivalents and it will work?

And then after that the hub used with NX is HG, so I can use a Deore cassette when the NX cassette wears out and its time to replace it? And I wouldn't have to replace the NX crank for a Shimano one at the same time?

Thanks in advance!

SRAM and Shimano cassettes are interchangeable.

If you want to go further, then SRAM and Shimano rear derailleurs and shifters are not compatible.....apart from 11 speed mountain bike ones. They are, interestingly enough, the only SRAM and Shimano derailleurs and shifters that are, across all of their road and mtb ranges.

So, you *should* be able to swap the derailleur for a Deore one and it *should* work fine with the SRAM shifters

I'm about to try it myself later this week so I'll let you know! 🙂

You don't need to replace the crank

Yes a Shimano cassette will fit on the freehub

And yes it might not be totally perfect but a Shimano mech will work with a seam shifter (I ran it for a while on 11speed, in the end I got the Shimano shifter to match, but it did work with the sram one)

(And deore much tougher than nx ime)

I had 12 speed NX on my HT when I bought it last year and swopped the mech and shifter to slx, which worked well with the sram cassette, ring and chain.

However I then changed the slx bits to AXS on the back of a PSA on here 😁

Yep that will work, just done exactly that on my Bokor.

Thanks everyone! So even easier than I thought, I expected to have to change at least the derailleur and shifter at the same time, bit of a bonus to find out they are compatible!

I am pretty sure that mixing SRAM and Shimano on 11spd is almost compatible - close enough to be usable - but 12spd is completely compatible? OK to mix and match shifters / derailleurs etc?

Yep, looks like people are mixing and matching 12 speed too

When you come to replace the cassette, have a look at Sunrace as an alternative to Shimano or Sram - it might come up lighter with better ratios for a comparable price.

They are very durable IME.

I'll take it one step further. On my hardtail I'm running an 11 speed sunrace cassette with a Shimano Deore M615 (with a OneUp RAD cage) mech and 11 speed GX shifter and it all plays nicely
