Anyone got any feedback on this yet- I've specced it on a new bike, for two reasons- it's cheap, and if I don't get on with it I can cheaply fit whatever Shimano bits I need.
On the other hand, I didn't like 9 speed Sram (not sure whether there's any resemblance), there was some mutterings in early reports about the shifter and rear mech quality, and Shimano doesn't seem to have 11 speed nailed.
I'm halfpie wondering whether to make the jump to GX11, which seems to be pretty much universally liked if NX loses it's snap a few months in?
A mate has NX cassette with GX rear mech and works fine. Still dialled in a good 10 months or so on with no fettling/adjusting. I don't think an NX rear mech would be any less good as shifting is down to the chain/cassette interaction rather than the mech. I'm on GX cassette and mech for the last 3 or so months, again, still dialled in. Shifts better than any 10/9/8/7/6/5 speed i've ever owned. In fact it shifts better than my Ultegra 11 speed on my road bike.
I don't think there is much in it(except some grams), the NX shifter feels a bit cheap and plastic compered to the GX and you can't mount it on a matchmaker X clamp. Mix & match NX/GX/Sunrace cassette if you want ..to get the best balance of cost/quality.
The main grammage is in the cassette. NX cassette is significantly heavier at over 500g. However it is Shimano standard so way more compatible.
Aside from that you can mix stuff up. On one bike I've got GX mech which is a good compromise of price and quality, X1 shifter as supposedly a bit better, and Shimano XT cassette.
GX and upwards SRAM 11sp cassettes, you'll need XD freehub.
Had gx since it was out, new bike came nx. It's got a cheaper feel but feels fine. It will get a gx eagle on it when I'm ready though I think as a bit more range and lighter will be nice. Also after years of fighting free hub chewing etc xd seems to be a simple solution
