I'm running 12 speed XT on my bike. Missus has GX on hers.
(I've just bought a new pair of SLX Cassettes + jockey wheels to go with the new chain and chainring I will fit to my bike.)

At Christmas I bought a GX cassette & chain cheapish in Germany, 10-52T. Not sure whether I bought it as a spare for the missus' or whether I bought it for me to use on my spare Enduro wheel along with the XD driver that I got with my DTSwiss wheels. The theory being that I put the XD driver on the 3rd rear wheel then I could put the GX cassette on it and thus have 3 wheels ready to go on my bike, rather than having to swap one of the microspline drivers and cassette across from one of the other two rear wheels.

BUT, I ****ed up. I bought the 52T cassette without realising that it won't fit the older GX mech on the missus' bike.

1)Does anyone know if that 52T SRAM cassette will work with my XT mech?

If not then
2) Given that the chain & cassette etc on the missus' bike need replacing, am I right in thinking that it would actually be cheaper buying a new 520% GX effing mech to use with this 10-52T than it would be just buying a 10-50T?

that's nuts

As a further complication I also bought one of those 12 speed 11-50T SRAM cassettes on this week's PSA which I think I can fit to the standard old style freehub that came with the abovementioned Enduro wheel (I ordered it with the wrong adapter cos I am a halftard) Will a SRAM cassette work on an XT drivechain?

I run a 52T GX cassette with a XT mech. It needed a little bit of adjustment to the B tension compared to the previous 51T Shimano one.
