Something I've not thought of before - will an 11sp compatible chainring work with GX Eagle 12sp?

I don't see why not, but, well, you know 'standards' these days...!

Yes it will, the internal width of the chain is the same

I think sram say no, on account of different tooth profiles, but it will.

I read somewhere last week that the 12speed chain ring is the only part of the 12 groupset which is compatible with 11 speed.
I have since purchased the latest chainset to run with 11 speed everything else but have not fitted any of it yet

Works just fine.

You don't get the supposed benefits of the new 12spd Eagle X-Sync rings, but when I bought my X01 setup I already had Raceface SIXC cranks that I wasn't about to bin off just for a SRAM crank.

FWIW, Eagle rocks! Getting waaaaaaaaay better life out of the chain and cassette (and consequently chainring too) than with 11spd, so much so it's bonkers!

Not getting this myself... my 12 speed has been getting gradually worse since I bought the bike from new at the end of April. The chain wasn't showing any sign of wear on the length gauge but after the system stopped shifting and the mech started pulling I've had to change the chain today, run it with one less link and wound in the b-screw some more to get it to run and shift properly.

Sounds to me like the chain was 1 link too long in the first place... What make of bike was it? I know certain brands seem to be unable to work out chain length required for a 1x setup, so they err on the cautionary side shall we say.

I think the chain is narrower on the wide links by about 0.4mm, which means that on a new 11 spd chainring you migh get excess wear on the fat teeth... for a while. That said Ive run a 12 spd chain on a full 11 system without issue, so perhaps not such a problem 😉

Is chain length a thing for 1x?? More so than simply getting it fit for any gearing system?

Just totalled up and I'd done just over 49hrs and 455k on the chain. Like I said though, very little, if any stretch showing on the chain.

Is this what others are getting out of their Eagle 12 chain life ?

Also, took the bike for a ride on Sunday and whilst its running and shifting a lot better I'm still get an annoying tick on the second to top cog, which if you adjust the index to get rid of it makes the change down sluggish.

Another thread I started about that here.

You absolutely can with absolutely no issues whatsoever. I am doing just that. '12' speed Eagle chainring on a GX 11 speed setup. Works a charm.
