Sram gx 10 speed shifter issue

The bigger shifter paddle (to shift to a bigger sprocket) is slipping on my sons bike.
It will engage with one click up from the smallest two sprockets but then after will often slip through it’s range with no effect on the derailleur

Any ideas if this can be fixed if I take the shifter apart?
