Hi folks,
I have a choice of Guide brakes: RSC without S4 or RS with S4 Caliper.
So has anyone tried both calipers and notice a difference in performance? Was bleeding the old caliper really a ball ache?
Is the bite adjust useful, more useful than the new caliper.
I ride steep technical stuff with decents no more than 3-4 mins in UK if that helps.
Cheers
I had the old RS and now have the new r. The new r feels more powerful but difficult to be objective as I've got 200mm discs now but had 160mm before.
But then I had sintered pads before and have organic now I think.
With the RS I didn't ever feel I needed to adjust the bite point.
Bleeding the old RS didn't strike me as that difficult - just got the new bleeding edge tool I need to have a go at the new calliper but not tried it yet.
I think given the choice I'd get the new RS over the old rsc.
Old caliper is about a 10 minute job if you have a buddy to help if not it's a bit of a pain. New caliper is really easy to bleed with blade tool. I had the old guide r's which were great for power I'm not a skinny lad and never had any problems in the alps or Canada with them. On my new brakes I've never even touched the bite point only reason and multiple threads I have read about them most people say save the cash and just go for the RS
Ta very much. Think i read the same reviews about the bite point control.
Just got RSC's with the S4 caliper from Rose Bikes at £120 an end.
Just so you know...
APF
Great deal... don't get me started about Rose bikes though!
Anyone know if the calipers are interchangeable? In other words use the S4 calipers with the previous standard of lever with connects manic?
Think you'd need to change the hose too, as the fitting's different on the new caliper, but as far as I know the lever hasn't changed so don't see why you couldn't swap.
